There's a feeling of back to school in the air - so I figured I should go through the old backpacks to see what can be salvaged.
(Don't you just hate buying new composition notebooks when only 2 pages were used from last year!)
Garrett's backpack is clean as a whistle and his is all ready to go (of course).
Madi's backpack is a different story however.
I came across last years daily journal she kept in the classroom and I started thumbing through it.
This particular entry caught my eye.
It was dated September 7, 2007 - only a month before Great Grandma Green passed away.

What struck me as especially endearing - we had missed our annual trip back to Utah last summer. Madi had been too sick to travel. And yet this was the memory she chose to record.
My Grandma Green passed away while Madison was being treated at Tripler Hospital in Hawaii last October.
I was touched remembering how excited Madison was when my dad asked her if she wanted to help him can green beans in Grandma's kitchen while we were just there. Now I understand.
And it makes me even more grateful I made the apricot jam this year.

What a sweet post! I used to bake with my grandmother and that's one of my favorite memories as a child. I'm glad that Madi had that opportunity with her great grandmother.
How precious. It obviously meant so much to her. I am glad she recorded that memory.
I miss Grandma more than ever right now. It's chili sauce and apricot nectar time.
Of course you do. You were the Aunt referenced in her note. I'm glad you two helped Madi enjoy it - because honestly it ranks up there with sewing for me.
I did not know Madi felt that way. I miss mother more than ever. I managed the beans ok and it was fun having the girls help some. I am also pleased Chan used some of the apricots. There are still plenty, so come on home. The chile sauce is over my head; I have been traveling around the neighborhood giving away the tomatoes.
I'm reading the comments and realized the one I wrote never posted! I have great memories of canning BEANS with my Grandma Lang as well as canning tomatoes with Grandma Brown and my mom. For some reason those are precious memories and I'm glad to know Madison has found her canning memories as well! (Grandma Lang would pay me a dime for snipping beans all day long. I thought it was great!)
