I wanted to attend - even if it was just to support all the hard work and planning that goes into an event like this. But with the move, a tropical storm (that fizzled out) and David having to leave town - it just wasn't in the cards.
It was a hoot hearing the stories from the event and checking out all the photos.
Trying to match up faces with memories from what seems like so long ago.
But my heart skipped a beat when I came across this one. . .

I had to stop and pause.
These are the kids from my neighborhood.
The Union 17th ward neighborhood.
I see those faces and I'm immediately flooded with years of memories. . . . . .Church, youth activities, toilet papering in the wee hours, etc.
It looks like home to me.
It's had me thinking . . . . . what will tug at my kids heartstrings in 20+ years? What will trigger their memories?

Your kids will have the memories of coming to Utah each summer, like I had memories of playing with the Pierces during the summer. I remember the kids growing up in the neighborhood, but for me the ones playing with my cousins are a lot more memorable to me. They will also remember the beautiful places they have gotten to live in around the world, and with each place will come blocks of time for which they have certain memories. I think it will be much easier to remember certain things when they are associated with a certain time that they can single out. Most of all, they are going to have wonderful memories of the beautiful homes you always create together. You have such a cute little family that when they think about when they were little they will smile. In my opinion, they will have much better memories than we have because our parents weren’t as in love as you and David are. I think you are a wonderful mother and I bet there isn’t one thing your children would change about you. I think you have created a wonderful family. What more could they ask for? I think they will have the best of memories because of you.
Hey I recognized those people too! Great fun!
You kids no doubly have great memories of their own too!
